Sustainable Buildings Canada

A message from the Executive Director:

Dear SBC Members, Friends, and Colleagues,

The year 2010 looks to be an exciting one for Sustainable Building, and for SBC. As you know, 2009 was an eventful year for our organization, including a record number of design charrettes (see our website for the details) in support of the Ontario Power Authority’s High Performance New Construction Program and several private initiatives across the country. We were very successful with the Sustainable Breakfast sessions in Toronto. We held six of them last year in partnership with AutoDesk and the topical subject matter and top notch presenters meant that we had over 235 people attend these sessions. We also continued with our EE4 and e-Quest energy modelling training again last year and trained over 60 new energy modellers. And, most notably, the year culminated in our signature event, the Green Building Festival on September 23th -24th.

In 2009, we partnered with our colleagues at ARIDO to co-locate the Green Building Festival at the IIDEX/NEOCON interior design show. This partnership resulted in the Green Building Festival becoming the largest green building related conference and exposition in the country. Our full day plenary and educational workshops were attended by over 800 people and the three-day exposition saw more than 10,000 visitors. The success of the conference and our partnership with ARIDO inspired the Board of SBC to unanimously vote to continue to grow this relationship. As a result, I am pleased to announce that the Green Building Festival will again be co-located with the IIDEX interior design show. The event will be held on September 22nd to 24th at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto. You will hearing more about the Festival as the year progresses but please mark it in your calendars now.

For 2010, SBC will be continuing with our core activities and also looking to explore new opportunities related to energy efficiency and renewable energy program delivery and support. As always, we also look to our membership for support and ideas. We encourage you to join our organization and get involved with setting direction. We welcome your input.

SBC members get preferred rates on all our activities and the savings are significant. Membership forms are available from our website: www.sbcanada.org.

Our breakfast sessions will resume in March. Please check the website for the details and we look forward to seeing you in 2010.

Sincerely,

Mike Singleton
